Initial Appointment

By the time you (or your child) come for the first appointment we will have already spoken briefly over the phone about your reasons for contacting me. I will gather some clinical information during this conversation and answer any questions you might have. This will help set the stage before we begin our work together.

During our first session we will spend time becoming acquainted with each other, orienting you to the therapy process, exploring your goals and discussing how my skills and various treatment approaches may help you reach your goals. A proper fit between therapist and client is of the utmost importance so spending time on this is quite beneficial. Reviewing this information will help you know what to expect from our work together. Questions about the therapy process are welcome at any time.

For my younger clients the first appointment will include me orienting them to play therapy & the playroom and establishing a good connection with each other. We will go at a pace that is best for your child and the therapy process will be explained in terms that are age appropriate. I require that at least one parent attend the first session with their child. This provides the support a child needs to explore a new place, get to know a new person and feel good about this new venture.

In order to maximize our time together, I ask that you complete the opening paperwork before the first appointment. This allows me to familiarize myself with your concerns before we meet. I will send the opening documents to you ahead of time via a client portal that is confidential and unique to you. The portal makes the paperwork process seamless and convenient. As I often have clients on the waitlist, kindly provide at least 24 hours notice if you must cancel your appointment. I look forward to working with you!
